Unknown Nations

Know

An organization going where no ministry goes—finally wearing an identity that tells the world exactly what that means.

World Mission had spent three decades doing some of the most courageous missions work in the world—reaching people groups so remote, so spiritually resistant, and so isolated that less than one percent of Western missions giving ever finds them. What it lacked was a name and identity capable of communicating that to the donors it needed to reach. Engagement Group gave that ministry a new name, a defining vocabulary, and a brand built to carry its extraordinary story to a national stage.

Challenge

A ministry going to places no one else would go—known only in West Michigan, invisible to the national donor audience it needed to find.

World Mission had built an extraordinary operation: over 35 strategic outposts across the 10/40 window, more than 1,400 indigenous missionaries, and a proven method for getting the Gospel into places where it had never been heard. The challenge was twofold. The name "World Mission" was generic to the point of confusion—regularly mistaken for World Vision and a dozen other large organizations—and gave no signal of the ministry's singular, laser-focused calling. Beyond West Michigan, the organization was largely invisible. The strategically-minded donors it needed to reach nationally had no framework for finding or categorizing it. A ministry called to the ends of the earth had not yet made it out of its own backyard.

Solution

A new name that defines a people group no one else was naming—and an identity bold enough to match the darkness it was walking into.

Engagement Group developed a complete brand strategy, messaging framework, and visual identity for the ministry—including a new name: Unknown Nations. The name is not simply a rebrand. It is a definition. An Unknown Nation is a people group with zero Gospel access—no churches, no pastors, no Bibles, never having heard the name of Jesus. Naming that reality, and naming the organization after it, gave donors an immediate framework for understanding what this ministry uniquely does. The visual identity is deliberately intense: near-black backgrounds, bold red, and a waveform icon representing the audio Bible—"The Treasure"—brought in spoken word to those who cannot read. Website, brochure, social media, apparel, exterior signage, and a custom promotional kit were all developed as part of a cohesive platform.

Concept

Light in the darkness. An identity built to feel like what it represents—bold, immersive, and unmistakably committed to going where no one else will go.

The brand concept for Unknown Nations centers on a single, visceral truth: this ministry goes into the darkest places on the planet. Every visual choice reflects that calling. Near-black backgrounds create an immediate sense of weight and gravity—this is not a comfortable ministry. The bold red cuts through like light. The waveform icon is a masterstroke of layered meaning: a sound wave representing the audio Bible delivered in heart language to spoken-word reliant peoples; and a world rendered in frequencies, transmitting the Gospel to nations that have never received it. The result is an identity that stops a serious donor mid-scroll and communicates, without a word, that this organization is going somewhere different—and invites them to go with it.

Results

"We have seen attendance continue to increase. We have seen tons of new faces and new families. The number of kids coming to Sunday morning is exploding, which tells me we are reaching young families. Lots of good stuff happening and God is moving!!"

Chris Dague | Executive Pastor
